bosses have received over ten complaints regarding a rough sleeper
who has set up home in a bus shelter in Burnham-On-Sea town centre.
man has been living in the shelter in Victoria Street, opposite
the former Tuckers Garage site, for several months.
Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds has been trying to help the
man and find a solution.
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I have been in regular contact
with the rough sleeper. He is not interested in receiving any
help in finding a home or any official support whilst he is rough
have spoken at length to Sedgemoor Cleaning Surroundings, who
own the shelter, and our local policing team. Both have said that
there isn't anything they can do. I would like to see him receive
some help and support, but feel I have reached the end of my influence."
Council Clerk Denise Emery added: "We have received 10 complaints
from local residents regarding several issues about the rough
sleeper, and have spoken with the police and Sedgemoor to try
and find a solution, but they can't move him on."
are therefore looking at more collaborative action instead, working
together, and are advising residents to contact their Sedgemoor
District Councillor in the first instance if they have concerns."
