Burnham and Highbridge groups share council funding boost
groups in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have this week received
cash injections from Sedgemoor District Council.
authority awarded over £12,500 in community grants to groups
across the district at its latest Grants Committee meeting on
Tuesday (17th November).
the local groups benefiting is Fibromyalgia Heart of Somerset,
based in Burnham, pictured above, which is a weekly support
group for people with Fibromyalgia and ME and their family, friends
and carers. It has been awarded £800 to help support the
group to hire a hydrotherapy pool for weekly group sessions.
Swimming Club, pictured, which has been awarded £750
to assist with the purchase of new anti-wave lane ropes.
Community Theatre Group, a voluntary group which brings theatre
to the streets and shops of Burnham, while providing creating
writing workshops, was awarded £1,000 to help fund its 'Teddy
Tell a Tale' project by working with a co-ordinator in local residential
homes and to host a series of community workshops with a theatre
Friends of Apex Park has also been awarded £2,000 towards
the costs of providing the national Playday on the first Wednesday
of next August. The event provides free activities for children
and young people and generally attracts around 6,000 people.
And Burnham Events Social Team, a voluntary group which provide
events and entertainment in Burnham, was awarded a grant of between
£1,250 and up to a maximum of £2,500 to support the
Burnham skating rink installation and running costs of the rink
during December 2015 and January 2016. This grant is subject to
the remaining project funds required being raised as match funding.
council's total grants budget in 2015/16 is £60,500, with
£46,873 awarded so far this budget year. To find out more
