Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received multiple calls reporting a car fire on the M5 between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Thursday morning (August 18th).

A section of the northbound carriageway between the junctions 22 and 21 was closed following the blaze.

A car was alight with the bonnet almost entirely engulfed by the flames, said eyewitnesses.

Firefighters frm Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater tackled the blaze using foam.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire Service said: “On arrival, the officer in charge confirmed one vehicle was well alight on the hard shoulder. Firefighters used foam to tackle the fire.”

“At 11.53am the officer in charge confirmed the fire was out, and crews were making the scene safe and damping down.”

There were no serioius injuries, with South West Ambulance Service saying that it did not attend the incident.
