man's petition calls for tougher police action on phone drivers
Burnham-On-Sea resident has launched a petition calling on the
Government to take tougher action against motorists who use mobile
phones while driving.
May, pictured, wants Police to be given new powers to seize and
destroy phones if drivers are caught using them.

and he hopes that enough people will sign for Parliament to debate
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The only deterrent to using a hand-held
mobile phone whilst driving is the remote possibility of being
caught and then being given a fixed penalty fine of 3 points and
is totally insignificant in today's world."

absolutely certain such legislation would have a significant deterrent
many people are killed or injured every week as a result of road
traffic accidents where mobile phone distraction is the cause.
