A huge £4,019 was raised for local charities and community groups during Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club’s weekly quiz nights during 2015.
The Friday events raised money for scores of different charities and local groups, and they are about to re-start for 2016.
Those who benefited last year included the Children’s Society, BARB Search & Rescue, Fibro Somerset, Scouts, Hillview Carnival Club, Weston Hospice, BIARS and the Bay Centre.
An average of £120 was raised on each of the quiz nights with the single-night record standing at £271.
Local clubs and societies, school PTAs, charities and local groups are now being invied to contact The Ritz in Victoria Street as they plan bookings through 2016.
Ritz committee member Mike Barsby told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are really pleased to be able to offer local groups the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing night out and to raise a substantial amount for their good cause at the same time.”
“We organise everything, from supplying the questions and quizmaster, to snacks and the raffle. All the good cause has to do is turn up on the night with a few teams, supply a couple of raffle prizes and enjoy the evening.”
“Our target for this year is £5,000 so if your group or charity wants to share in this money please contact us as soon as you can to arrange a suitable date.”
The quizes start at 8.30pm and end about 10.30. Questions are suitable for all with nothing too difficult and families welcome.
Teams of up to six are invited to arrive from 8pm. Admission costs just £1 per person. The quiz is open to everyone so even if you are not a charity and just fancy holding a pub quiz with friends on a Friday night the Ritz will give you a warm welcome.
