St George's Day fun enjoyed in Burnham and Highbridge
Georges Day was celebrated at both Apex Park in Highbridge
and Marine Cove in Burnham-On-Sea when a line-up of free family
activities was held on Saturday (April 23rd).
The day of fun was organised by Sedgemoor District Councils
parks team and was attended by hundreds of people over the course
of the event.
all started at Marine Cove on Burnhams seafront where visitors
were invited to make a woven Dragon Fly out of local willow following
a training session with Musgrove Willows.
It was followed by a special St Georges Day themed walk,
led by Sedgemoors community gardener Jacqui Strong.
free guided walk proceeded along The Esplanade to Apex Park and
all ages of walkers were welcome to join in. Walkers were encouraged
to test their observation skills to find a story along route about
walk ended at Apex Park where art and craft activities were held
with a St Georges Day theme.
activities included a dragon hunt around the park with rewards
for those who succeeded on their mission.
Model Boat Club were on hand with special dragon boats on the
lake called Lucinda and Baby Lucy along with St Andrews
Church running Messy Church.
Some of the children got into the spirit of the day by wearing
fancy dress as a Princess or a Knight.
The event saw the friends groups from both of Sedgemoors
Green Flag award-winning parks working together on the joint event.
