Crowds turn out for 'final' Burnham-On-Sea seafront vintage car run

Large crowds headed to Burnham-On-Sea seafront on Saturday evening (June 4th) to see more than 100 classic vehicles arrive for the 23rd annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run, which may be the final event.

Organiser Denis Stone, who has overseen the long-running event, thanked all those who had taken part and said it will be his final event.

"All good things come to an end and 2016 was the end," he told "I have reached an age where I just can't manage it any longer."

102 vehicles took part in the popular event this year, which showcased a wide range of vintage vehicles, from cars, lorries and bikes to military vehicles and emergency service cars while rasing charity cash.

The vehicles were cheered in by Burnham-On-Sea's town crier, Alistair Murray, as pictured above.

Burnham's Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, picked a 1933 Rover Meteor called The Duchess as their favourite vehicle, pictured below.

Owner Nick Jones said he was "delighted" to have won, adding that he bought the car in 1967 for £20 before renovating it back to its former glory.

The event is estimated to have raised around £60,000 for charities and good causes throughout its history.

The run started as normal in Glastonbury and the vehicles then headed across the Somerset levels to Burnham-On-Sea's Pier Street Car Park on the South Esplanade.

Burnham's Mayor and Mayoress thanked organiser Denis Stone, below, for his work in organising the event.
