Horse box freed after getting stuck in soft sand on Brean beach

A horse box became stuck in soft sand on Brean beach on Sunday afternoon (November 19th).

The lady driver from Bristol had parked at the top of the beach on the soft sand where its wheels had become stuck.

The horse box, pictured here, was freed with the help of other horse riders and members of public using spades and pushing.

The volunteers from BARB Search & Rescue were also called to help and were on their way from Burnham-On-Sea before being stood down en route.

Beachwarden Dave Furber told "The driver thanked everyone for their help and was relieved to be out of the sand."

He added: "If bringing horse boxes onto the beach during the winter I would advise owners to park on the firm sand near the top of the beach and to bring some small planks of wood to lay down under your wheels."

"Be careful of the soft sand at the top of the beach which collects when the wind blows - it is easy to get into difficulty."

"Until mid-March there are only beach wardens working at Brean on Saturdays, Sundays, Boxing Day and New Year's Day between 11am and 4.30pm. There are no beach wardens working at Berrow beach until the end of March."

"Members of the public who see anyone in difficulty or that they feel is dangerous should call the Coastguard on 999."
