Work starts this week on £10,000 upgrade of Burnham-On-Sea play park

A Burnham-On-Sea public play area is set to be given a £10,000 upgrade by Sedgemoor District Council, with work due to start this week.

Crosses Penn play area, which is located next to Burnham's Manor Gardens, will get modern new play equipment.

Claire Faun, a spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District Council, told "Investment in play is very important to Sedgemoor District Council."

"Children and young people benefit greatly from having a variety of play and sport facilities to explore with their peers and such equipment helps to ensure they lead an active and creative lifestyle."

The new equipment includes a new play train with carriages, a ticket office play panel, and a frog spring rocker will be installed in place of the older items. A new rubber safety surface and lookalike track for the train will also be installed.

The upgrade, costing £9,995, has been part-funded by Sedgemoor's parks budget and developer contributions earmarked for play area enhancements.

The majority of the play area will remain open for use during the construction period.

One parent who uses the play park, Jane Marsh, said the upgrade is "very welcome - this park in Crosses Penn is well used by local families and it's good to see the investment with some modern play equipment."
