Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church will celebrate the first year of holding its monthly Dementia-friendly services this Thursday (20th September).
The services are held every third Thursday of the month at 2.30pm in St Andrew’s Church.
They consist of well-loved hymns and prayers followed by a shared tea of sandwiches and cakes.
Launched last summer, they have proved very popular with all who attend them.
Rev Sharon Eldergill said: “With the rising incidence of Dementia countrywide, St Andrew’s wanted to offer a simple, friendly Church service that is open and accessible to all, and particularly sensitive to those with different forms of Dementia, or learning difficulties.”
“From beginning a year ago, ‘3rd Thursday’ has become a warm, caring community to feed the body and soul, as people come and encounter God and each other during worship, food and friendship.”
To help in the celebrations the Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, Cllr Bill Hancock, will be reading a lesson, and local MP James Heappey will be leading The Lord’s Prayer. All are welcome to attend.
