Dog survives fall down steep cliffs of Brean Down, prompting new safety warning

-

A dog that fell over the cliffs at Brean Down on Sunday morning (September 8th) managed to survive without injury.

The terrier went over the cliffs at around 11am near the rock-climbing area on the southern side of the Down.

Brean’s beach warden told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The dog was lucky to survive without injury – it had gone over the top of the Down, landed on a ledge, and then fallen to the base of the cliffs.”

“The owner was relieved to get to the bottom of the cliffs and find the dog was not injured – but she took it to a local vet for a check over.”

The National Trust and Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards advise dog owners keep their pets on leads when walking them on the Down after several sad incidents where dogs have died.
