Singers, dancers, magicians and Elvis impersonators were the mixture of performers who took part in a talent contest in Brean at the weekend.

Pontins teamed up with The Sun newspaper to launch its Search For A Star competition, in which contestants try and impress the judges with their act in a bid to win a one year contract with a leading London talent agency and a holiday worth £1,000.

The judges in Brean at the weekend included TV presenter David Van Day, who is a Britain’s Got More Talent panelist and formerly one half of pop group Dollar, along with Sue Moxley, The Sun’s Beauty Editor – both pictured right.

Burnham-On-Sea singer Jamie Lee sang ‘My Girl’ and impressed the judges enough to reach the final ten. He’s progressed through to the next round.

Jamie, who is a local builder during the day, told the judges he wants to get into the music industry.

Other performers during the weekend included Stevie Brown from Chard, who sang Paloma Faith and was in the BBC’s search for contestants in Over The Rainbow and got into the final 100 for that programme.

Barry Cahill from Weston, who works as an Elvis Tribute Act, also wowed the judges with his singing – as did 16 year-old Marcus Sangiouanni of Yeovil.

Mr Van Day told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a great weekend – we had lots of interesting contestants to watch. The quality did vary, but there were some exceptional entrants.”

The winner of the competition at Brean was Andy Taylor, 19, from London

The judges’ verdicts on each act would have impressed even Simon Cowell

One of the more ghoulish acts on show was this ‘eye popping’ duo!
