Local county councillor elected as Chairman of Somerset fire authority

-

A County Councillor from the Burnham-On-Sea area was elected Chairman of Devon & Somerset’s Fire & Rescue Authority on Friday (May 28th).

Huntspill county councillor Mark Healey, pictured, was chosen during the group’s AGM at Clyst St. George in Exeter.

Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In the future, we do face challenging and difficult times ahead but the Authority has got an agenda to try and address these with a number of initiatives being explored that will also hopefully secure the recognition of the Authorities place as excellent.”

“I am very committed in working closely in partnership with officers to ensure that this vision is realised.”

He also paid tribute to outgoing Chairman, Bernard Hughes OBE, who was in the post for nine years.

The Authority has strategic responsibility for discharging fire and rescue authority functions for the combined area.

Cllr Healey joined Somerset County Council in 2001 and became a member of the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Authority following its combination in 2007. He was re-elected to his county council seat in Huntspill last year.
