Beach wardens go on duty in Burnham and Berrow for new season

-

Beach wardens have returned to duty in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow this week for the start of the new holiday season.

The Sedgemoor District Council wardens went on duty on Monday (March 30th) and are now in place until mid-September.

They are able to supervise beach activities, provide basic first aid, issue jetty permits and collect car parking fees on Berrow Beach.

“All staff are also trained by South West Ambulance service to administer defibrillation and oxygen therapy as well as basic first aid,” added a spokesman. “The staff were also successful in qualifying for the Open Water Emergency Action Award.”

In the high season of July and August, the beach wardens will once again be joined by RNLI lifeguards on Burnham and Berrow beaches.
