Burnham’s MP opens new £90,000 extension at Brent Knoll Parish Hall

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP Tessa Munt opened a brand new £90,000 extension to Brent Knoll’s parish hall on Saturday (August 25th).

She cut a ceremonial ribbon in front of more than 60 guests to mark the formal opening of the new Jubilee Room.

The extension creates a much-needed new meeting room, store room and disabled toilet facilities, enabling the hall to cater for more local groups.

Parish Hall Chairman Bob Filmer told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was “very proud” that the building project had moved from concept to completion in just two years.

He thanked architect Rex Woolley for helping ensure the project moved forward so smoothly and he thanked builder Andy Marsh and his team for delivering the project on time and within budget, particularly after recent wet summer.

Bob also thanked the groups who have helped fund the project including Viridor, the Nuttall Trust, Brent Knoll Parish Council, several anonymous donors and The Charity Bank for granting a mortgage, without which the project could not have happened. He also thanked the local residents who support the hall and its committee.

Tessa Munt MP and Frances James, a long-time resident of Brent Knoll and a former Parish Hall booking secretary, then cut the ribbon and declared the Jubilee Room officially open, as pictured right.

Tessa said it was a pleasure to visit the village again and said she is delighted that community has worked together to bring forward such an excellent project.

Bob Filmer said: “It was a terrific afternoon. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it is great when you see a wonderful new village facility become available for residents – and at a very reasonable price of less than £10 per hour!”

Anyone wishing to book the new facilities should contact Booking Secretary Jenny Butters on 01278 760 477.
