Police name pensioner who died after Burnham-On-Sea crash

Police have named the Burnham-On-Sea pensioner who died after being struck by a passing car in the town.

Doreen Pope died five days after she was hit by a Nissan car at 5.18pm last Tuesday (January 14th) at the junction of Berrow Road and Shelley Drive, pictured above.

The lady’s family have released a short tribute to her, stating: “Doreen Pope, aged 85, deeply loved mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all the family.”

Police are still keen to hear from witnesses to the collision. Officers investigating the crash have installed signs around the site of the incident.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The circumstances of the collision are still being investigated and police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch via the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.”

“The incident occurred in Berrow Road when the driver of a Nissan 350Z and a pedestrian collided. The pedestrian was knocked to the ground and was taken to Frenchay Hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment she died on Sunday.”

The collision occurred during the busy evening rush-hour when a period of heavy rain was passing through the town.
