Green Flag Awards announced for Marine Cove and Apex Park

-

Supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove Gardens are celebrating this week after the park received its second Green Flag Award.

The seafront gardens – which re-opened in 2011 following a £360,000 four-year refurbishment project – formally received the award on Monday (July 29th).

Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Cllr Peter Downing raised the new green flag with members of the Friends of Marine Cove group during a brief ceremony.

The national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

Highbridge’s Apex Park has also received the news this week that it has been awarded a Green Flag for a seventh year running and it its flag will be unveiled next month.

“It is with thanks to Sedgemoor’s Parks Officers, Dog Wardens, its Clean Surroundings Team as well as the support from the Friends of Marine Cove Gardens and Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group that both parks are in tip-top condition for their wide range of visitors,” Cllr Downing told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
