New Highbridge group starts crackdown on speeding vehicles

-

A group of worried residents in Highbridge who have launched a new community speedwatch group to try and combat the problem of speeding motorists have held their first speed gun session.

Over a dozen Walrow residents have formed the group after airing their concerns over the dangerous high speeds of drivers during a public meeting held at Morland Hall during February.

On Saturday (March 23rd), residents received training from Avon and Somerset Police on using speed guns and then carried out their first monitoring of passing traffic in Walrow.

They are keen to halt speeding traffic along Walrow where they say motorists often drive at up to 60mph through the 30mph zone. “We clocked several vehicles going over 35mph and will continue our monitoring over coming weeks,” said a spokesperson.

Police can issue warning letters and take action against persistent offenders identified by the group.

The formation of the group was organised by Highbridge councillors Roger and Janet Keen with input from Avon and Somerset Police PCSO Mike Shaw and local community speedwatch organiser Mike Scholar.
