A stranded lamb trapped in mud on a riverbank near Burnham-On-Sea has been helped to safety by kind-hearted Coastguards.

The Burnham team were called to West Huntspill on Monday to hunt for a swimmer in the River Parrett and after the search was called off, they assisted police in rescuing the distressed animal.

“The animal was struggling in deep mud on the banks of the river and the police asked whether we might be able to help,” Burnham Coastguard Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Special safety boards were used to reach the animal and one of the team carried the lamb to safety, much to the relief of the grateful farmer. The animal would certainly have drowned on the next high tide.”
