Marine
Cove overhaul moves closer after £40,000 cash boost

Plans
to revamp a
Burnham-On-Sea public garden have been given a big boost this
week with the news that up to £40,000 has been earmarked
for the project.
The
overhaul of Marine Cove - originally unveiled last
autumn - includes plans to introduce sea-view seating, repair
the bus shelters at the front, alter access to the facility and
consider introducing CCTV to tighten up on security.
Town
councillor Neville Jones, who is overseeing the project, told
Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that he had received the "excellent
news" that up to £40,000 had been earmarked by Sedgemoor
District Council for the work.
"This
is very good news," he said. "Rest assured that none
of the money is going to be wasted on consultants - it's all going
into immediate improvements."
Initial
proposals - outlined in the list on the left - were unveiled in
September, though it is unclear which of the plans will make it
into the final work.
The
project is expected to be discussed by councillors over the next
few weeks. Proposed improvements at the gardens also include re-introducing
water fountains, replacing the sundial, adding new signs and adding
new plants.
A
separate bid for a £250,000 lottery grant is also expected
to be made later this year.
