Boost
for Burnham and Highbridge rail commuters as services increase
Commuters
in Burnham-On-Sea have been handed a boost from train operator
First Great Western, which has announced several new services
for Highbridge Railway Station.
From
December 2006, there will be 21 trains travelling to the north
and 22 to the south each day - compared to 18 and 19 at the moment.
Highbridge
Railway Station (pictured) will have three trains to London Paddington,
including a service which will start from Highbridge.
Burnham
town councillor Chris Williams, who has been campaigning for extra
services, said the station would also have an hourly service from
Taunton to Cheltenham with alternate trains providing a two hourly
service to Worcester.
Cllr
Williams added: "Highbridge and Burnham will now have three
trains to London Paddington at 07:18, 07:40 and 21:52. The 21:52
is a first, providing a late night service to major towns along
the Thames corridor and may be some use for Heathrow users."
But
he warned that already limited services to Wales are stopping
altogether. He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Current limited
direct services to Cardiff and South Wales will, to all intents
and purposes, cease. However, by changing at Bristol Temple Meads,
passengers can access a half hourly service to South Wales compared
with the present hourly service."
