14
new beachfront flats planned by developer in Burnham-On-Sea

Part
of Burnham-On-Sea's beachfront could be set to change after a
house developer this week unveiled multi-million pound plans to
build a three-storey block of 14 apartments next to the beach,
replacing the house pictured here.
The
application for 17 Allandale Road includes the demolition of the
current property and the formation of flats on two floors plus
a top floor penthouse. There would also be 20 car spaces and a
new access road.
Moose
Roper Limited, the developer behind the scheme, states in its
application that the proposed building would "make a positive
contribution to new housing needs in Burnham-On-Sea with a landmark
building."
"This
is a necessary development meeting housing targets on a brownfield
site, which in turn protects the countryside."
The
company argues that the site does not harm the character or amenity
of adjoining residential areas, and that the applicant is also
willing to "enter into negotiations to provide financial
contributions for open space and recreation and public art."
Its
application states that £25,000 has been put aside for the
contribution, and a further £5,000 has been set aside for
possible work to create a wave sculpted effect or mosaic along
the sea wall in front of the property.
Residents
with feedback about the scheme have until July 24th to contact
Sedgemoor's planning department.
