Albert Holmes, 83, was officially thanked for his work by Cllr Peter Clayton and Mayoress Jo Burridge at a function in Burnham and Highbridge Town Council's chambers in Jaycroft Road.

Eileen Shaw, Town Clerk, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Mr Holmes wrote to us recently recalling how in the 1940s when he was attached to the Bomb Disposal Squad he'd defused a large device on the town's beach."

"His work went largely unnoticed and because he said he'd like to return to the town, we also arranged a visit with the Mayor and Mayoress, who were both very interested to hear his experiences."
