Wartime
bomb expert thanked by Burnham's Mayor and Mayoress
A
bomb disposal expert who defused a device on Burnham-On-Sea beach
during World War II was welcomed back to the town on Thursday
(June 19th) by the Mayor and Mayoress.
Albert
Holmes, 83, was officially thanked for his work by Cllr Peter
Clayton and Mayoress Jo Burridge at a function in Burnham and
Highbridge Town Council's chambers in Jaycroft Road.
Eileen
Shaw, Town Clerk, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Mr Holmes wrote
to us recently recalling how in the 1940s when he was attached
to the Bomb Disposal Squad he'd defused a large device on the
town's beach."
"His
work went largely unnoticed and because he said he'd like to return
to the town, we also arranged a visit with the Mayor and Mayoress,
who were both very interested to hear his experiences."
