Motorist held on suspicion of drink driving after van careers into house

The driver of this damaged van was arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday evening (January 1st) after his vehicle careered into the side of a house.

Police and fire crews were called to Stoddens Road, near the entrance to the BASC ground, at 8pm after the Renault Kangoo collided with the side of a house - removing a large section of plasterwork from a house wall.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A car was in collision with a wall of a house in Stoddens Lane at 8pm. The accident partially blocked Stoddens Road."

"A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Burnham police station."

Nearby residents said the road was fully re-opened to traffic by 8.20pm.
