Burnham holiday park's plan to
fell 48 trees met with council objection

Controversial
plans by a Burnham-On-Sea holiday park to fell 48 protected trees
on its property have been met with objections by town councillors.
Burnham
Holiday Village wants to fell a long line of trees that have grown
beside homes in Maple Drive, pictured above.
But
the trees have a Protection Order on them and members of Burnham
Town Council's Planning Committee have voiced their concerns about
how the loss of the trees will impact the local environment.
"Felling
the trees would expose neighbouring properties to noise and overlooking
from the Holiday Village, since the trees act as a shield,"
explained Committee Chairman Cllr Peter Clayton on Monday (January
7th).
"Whilst
members understand the need to remove the trees for health and
safety reasons, this is a particularly high number of trees to
fell in one year and we would like to see a more phased approach
that would allow time for replanting to be effective."
The
council has logged an objection against the proposal and the final
decision now rests with Sedgemoor District Council.
