West Huntspill pub is latest victim of financial downturn

A once-popular pub on the outskirts of Highbridge has closed its doors and been boarded up, as pictured here.

The Royal Artillery Arms in Alstone Lane was shut earlier this month by its owners after the pub struggled to survive during the financial downturn.

The West Huntspill pub is the latest local pub closures during the past couple of years.

The Crown in Burnham's Oxford Street shut in 2007 and has since been turned into a development of new flats.

One local pub landlord told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Supermarkets are killing us - they are taking valuable trade away from pubs."
