Burnham-On-Sea police issue warning over cash machine crime

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have this week warned residents to be alert when using outdoor cash machines following a new security scare in the town.

It comes after an ATM outside Burnham’s Tesco store in Ben Travers Way was tampered with.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Some people using it between October 20th and 21st have had their cards retained, and it was later found that part of the machine had been altered.”

Police believe that a criminal gang is targeting cash machines in the Burnham area to obtain cards and PIN numbers.

“Our advice is for users to be careful, to examine the machines before inserting their card and to contact their bank and the police on 0845 456 7000 if anything unusual is noticed,” added the spokesman.
