Dozens of people attended a popular arts fun day in Burnham-On-Sea’s community centre on Saturday (September 10th).

Local arts group HABA (Highbridge and Burnham Artists) organised the craft fair and family fun day with an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ theme.

The event replaced the final day of HABA’s July arts festival which was postponed by bad weather.

Sarah Berryman, Chairman of HABA, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the day had been a great success – with a hat making competition among the highlights.

“A fantastic array of fabulous hats and masks were made by the children, from crazy top hats to glamorous Ascot style ladies hats. Children used their imagination to create millinery masterpieces, including the winner of the Mad Hat competition, Sophie’s amazing lighthouse hat,” she said.

A wide range of craft items were on show, including a knitted Alice in Wonderland themed throw that had been created during a fund-raising event earlier in the year.

Children also had the chance to help paint a huge blue caterpillar made of papier mache.

The day ended with a special tea party attended by Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Sarah added: “We had a great turnout for the event and are very grateful to Ken Hindle at the Community Centre for helping make the event such a success. We are also grateful to all the local businesses that sponsored the event and donated raffle prizes. Look out for details of our next event in November.”
