Burnham-On-Sea golfer’s fundraising drive raises a tee-rific £800!

Burnham-On-Sea professional golfer Nick Pope has raised hundreds of pounds for Comic Relief by helping golfers hone their skills.

Nick offered free golf lessons on Red Nose Day in return for a donation to the charity – and was delighted to raise a tee-rific sum of £800!

His marathon coaching session began at 9am on Friday and finished at 2pm on Saturday.

Some 27 golfers took up the opportunity of improving their golf skills.

“They each received coaching on either their short game or bunker play and a few opted to go hi-tech and took their session in the indoor teaching studio at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club,” said Nick, who is Head Professional at the club.

Nick sported a bright red shirt and even a red nose and a few of the golfers turned up sporting their red noses too!

He said: “I had hoped to raise around £100 from the free golf lessons but when I totalled up the donations I was delighted to find almost £800 had been raised!”

Nick is no stranger to fund raising as he was heavily involved with the past efforts of Burnham Pool where he was part of the Management Team, raising around £70,000 for Children In Need.

He also walked from his home in Burnham to Wedmore Golf Club to raise money for a defibrillating machine for the Club and later this year he is planning a cycle ride with his wife and Assistant Professional at Wedmore Golf Club, Carole Pope, from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of CLIC Sargent.
