Man detained by police at Highbridge Rail Station after tracks incident

-

A man was detained by police after bringing train services to a halt on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea on Monday evening (September 5th).

Police were called to Highbridge Railway Station shortly before 7pm after a man was seen on the tracks by the driver of an approaching train.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “BTP and Avon and Somerset Police officers were called to Highbridge and Burnham railway station after a report of a man seen on the tracks near the station at 6.57pm.”

“The driver of a Cardiff-Taunton service stopped his train and persuaded the man to leave the tracks and get onto the train.”

“A&S officers attended the station and detained a 25-year-old man from Brent Knoll under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act when the train arrived at the platform. The man was assessed by medical staff before being allowed home.”

BTP added that they are investigating a suspected trespass offence and will speak to the man further in due course.
