Over 20 street parties were held across Burnham-On-Sea and
Highbridge on Friday (April 29th) when residents celebrated the
Royal Wedding.
The towns were awash with red, white and blue to mark the marriage
of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Street
parties were held across the two towns, with 300 people attending
Highbridge's event at Churchfield School where a sit-down meal
was held and a mock wedding.
Five year-old Jacob Mattock and six year-old Ellie Brazier, who
are best pals in the same class at the school, were 'married'
by vicar Reverend Sharon Crossman in a ceremony.
In Burnham's Bathurst Close, 130 residents took part in a mass
street party where royal-themed hat and cake competitions were
held. The town's Mayor and Mayoress had the job of judging the
entries.
Worston
Lane was the setting for another big street party, where several
hundred people enjoyed a meal, street games and live music.

And The Grove in Burnham-On-Sea (pictured top) was also the setting
for a street party where residents sat down along tables in the
road to enjoy an afternoon of delicious food and drink with friendly
discussion.
Burnham's Fairstart Nursery in Princess Street also marked the
wedding with a fun morning of entertainment with games, craft
stalls and refreshments.
Sixteen patients at Burnham Hospital also joined in the celebrations,
watching the wedding on a big screen TV before enjoying a special
high tea provided by the Friends of Burnham Hospital.
Further celebrations were also held at Brean Village Hall, in
Burnham's Winchester Road, at Burnham's Ashbourne guesthouse,
outside the S&D in Burnham High Street and at Geri's Bistro
in College Street.

Burnham-On-Sea's MP Tessa Munt also attended a special Royal
Wedding themed party outside Mark Village Hall, supported by several
hundred local residents.
Burnham's Mayor, Michael Clarke, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It
makes you proud to be a resident of this area when you see the
warm community spirit that's been on show today. It's been a wonderful
day."
On Saturday, the Mayor's 'Right Royal Wedding Do' will be held
from 12 noon outside the Victoria Hotel with a wide range of street
entertainment and events taking place throughout the day in aid
of Burnham Hospital and BARB.
