Members
of Burnham In Bloom, Burnham Dreamscheme and the Friends of Apex
Park rolled up their sleeves on Saturday (March 26th) to take
part in a nationwide tree planting project.
The
groups joined the Royal Horticultural Society's 'It's Your Neighbourhood'
campaign, planting around 70 saplings around Apex Park.
Burnham and Highbridge's Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, and Mayoress
Maria Clarke helped the project by planting the first tree.
The Friends of Apex Park also took part, along with more than
20 youngsters from Burnham's newly-formed Dreamscheme.
The
planting session came after The Royal
Horticultural Society teamed up with The Woodland Trust
to give away 200,000 free saplings nationwide with the aim of
doubling
the number of native trees and woods across the UK.
Burnham In Bloom Secretary Richard Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"The Burnham in Bloom Committee were pleased to organise
this event which involved people of all ages, representing a number
of different community groups coming together to plant trees and
improve the local environment for the benefit of all our local
residents and visitors."
Mayor Michael Clarke added: "I was very happy to support
this super event, which brought the community together and also
helped improve our environment."
