of motorists are exceeding the 30mph speed limit along a busy
residential road in Burnham-On-Sea, a new study has found.
data gathered in Berrow Road from Somerset County Council's speed
monitoring system during June and July reveals that thousands
of drivers are ignoring the speed limit.
37,675 vehicles driven past the device during June, 23,313 were
travelling slower than the 30mph limit. However, 13,828 vehicles
were driven at between 30-40mph, while 493 travelled at 40-50mph,
and 41 vehicles travelled over 50mph.
figures have been debated at Burnham and Highbridge Town Council's
latest meeting. Cllr Tom Nicholls told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's
disappointing that some drivers are ignoring the limit, putting
other people's safety at risk, but on the whole these are a good
set of results."

will be passed to Burnham Police who are likely to step up their
own speed checks in response.
