Cost of garden waste collections in Burnham-On-Sea rises to £45

-

The annual charge for having garden waste collected from homes in the Burnham-On-Sea area is rising by £5 to £45 this year, Sedgemoor District Council has announced this week.

Gardeners throughout the Burnham and Highbridge area can now register to join the service, which launches in April.

The price was frozen last year but has seen an increase this time around. The service costs the council £55 per customer, which it subsidies.

Those signing up will receive 25 collections a year with garden waste being picked up from their homes from April onwards.

Customers signing up also have the option of receiving a green wheelie bin for their garden waste or garden waste sacks at a cost of £25 for 10 bags.

“Having your garden waste collected can save time and fuel and can prevent mess in your car,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The scheme encourages residents not only to take pride in their gardens, but also to recycle their garden waste. Every bit of Sedgemoor’s garden waste is turned into Revive soil conditioner or woody bits and is used to help turn the district’s food waste into agriculture fertilizer. Sedgemoor has the highest recycling rate in the county at 48%.”

Letters are now being sent to more than 10,000 current customers inviting them to renew their subscriptions.

New customers considering joining up can call in at the council’s HQ at Bridgwater House or call 0845 408 2543 to order and pay.
