Mayor visits volunteer-run computer training group in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor has visited the town’s UKOnline Centre to mark National Volunteers Week this week.

The volunteer-run service is based at Burnham’s BAY Centre in Cassis Close and holds regular computer training classes.

Mayor Martin Cox was shown how the group introduces visitors to the Internet and explains how they can best use new technology.

Regular sessions take place on Fridays between 11am and 1pm, or from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

Cllr Cox said: “I was fascinated by the facilities on offer. The Internet is a necessary part of modern life, and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing, an ideal learning environment.”

BAY Centre ICT co-ordinator Mike Lang agreed, adding: “At the UKonline centre our volunteers cover anything that visitors need to know, from learning how to switch on a laptop, to using email and photo editing on an individual basis.”
