Council objects against plans for nine new homes in Burnham-On-Sea

Controversial plans to build nine new homes in Burnham-On-Sea have been given a 'thumbs down' by town councillors.

Proposals to build nine home on land to the east of 150 Berrow Road have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council.

But members of the Town Council's Planning Applications Committee (pictured at their latest meeting) have raised a number of concerns about the bid for outline planning permission.

Cllr Andy Brewer said: "I have concerns about this would be an over-development of a small site and also have safety concerns about the narrow entrance onto Berrow Road which could be dangerous."

Cllr Helen Groves added: "Each property is likely to have an average of two vehicles which would create a high number of total vehicles on the site given the access onto Berrow Road."

But Cllr Bill Hancock told the committee's meeting: "I think this is a perfect development - I can't see any problem. There are many residential houses in the area so I can't see why this would be an over-development."

Councillors voted in favour of objecting against the scheme, however the final decision rests with Sedgemoor District Council.

Residents can submit their feedback about the plans to Sedgemoor District Council, quoting planning application reference 11/14/00010.
