World record set for longest sand art as mile-long work is completed

A new world record was set in Brean on Saturday (September 20th) when a group of sand artists created an impressive mile-long design.

Julian Richardson and three friends teamed up to produce the mammoth design pictured here, which stretched along the beach south of Brean Down.

"The design is our biggest yet and sets a new world record," a delighted Julian confirmed to moments after completing it.

"The design represented a DNA ribbon with added discs to give it definition and it followed the high tide line."

"It took us about five hours to conplete - we started at 10am and finished at 3pm just before the incoming tide reached it," he said. "I'm delighted with the end result - it's quite an achievement."

Julian, far left, thanked his three friends - Mirka Stadtruckerova, Stuart Dike and Paul Button - for their help in the feat

The huge design snaked its way along the beach at Brean, as seen here
