56 sackfuls of rubbish collected during Brean beach clean

56 sackfuls of rubbish were collected by volunteers during a National Trust beach clean at Brean on Saturday (March 21st).

More than 40 volunteers took part in the event at Brean Cove, removing the rubbish that has been washed up by recent high tides.

Ian Clemmett, the trust's Ranger, told "It was a very successful day and we thank everyone who came along."

"There was great team working, and also help from the Parish Council who have taken away the rubbish."

An unexploded flare was found among the rubbish, which was taken away by the Coastguard as a safety precuation. Some of the rubbish will be turned into art work and put on display later this year at Brean Down Fort.
