Award flags raised in Burnham-On-Sea
Seaside Award flags have been raised in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow
this week after both beaches were handed sought-after awards by
national campaign group Keep Britain Tidy.

came on Wednesday and was welcomed by Sedgemoor District Council,
which manages both the beaches.
Chairman, Cllr Peter Downing, formally received the award flags
during a ceremony held on Burnham seafront on Wednesday, pictured
council's Resorts Manager Graham Newing and Dave Coles, Environmental
and Coastal Protection Officer were also there to celebrate the
flags being raised.
Seaside Awards scheme highlights the best beaches across England
that achieve the highest standards of facilities and cleanliness.
District Council spokesperson Sam Taylor said: "Sedgemoor
District Council is very proud to have once again received the
Seaside Award for both of the beaches that we manage."
a time when more and more people are choosing to holiday in the
UK, the growth of visitors, alongside residents, enjoying our
delightful and dramatic coastline has highlighted not only the
demand but the continued importance of presenting and retaining
clean, attractive and well-managed beaches."
Seaside Award beaches can often be very different, they are a
symbol of quality which guarantee to residents and visitors that
the beach is one of the best in the country. Sedgemoor
District Council would like to take this opportunity to thank
all of the beach team for their excellent work in continuing to
manage the beaches effectively."
Jefferies, Business and Tourism Manager at Burnham Tourist Information
Centre, added: "This is fantastic news for our area and Sedgemoor
District Council does deserve to be praised for the work it has
done on trying to keep our beaches clean. This is great publicity."
Britain Tidys Seaside Award scheme celebrates the quality
and diversity of Englands coastline. Formerly called the
Quality Coast Award, the scheme is the nationwide standard for
the best beaches across the UK.
