High winds and heavy rain to hit Burnham-On-Sea area today

The Burnham-On-Sea area is set to be battered by strong wind and heavy rain this morning (Wednesday), with the Met Office issuing a 'yellow' warning for severe weather for the region.

The Met Office is asking people to be aware of the risk of disruption to transport and possible disruption to power supplies, as well as high waves over-topping.

Widespread gales, and severe gales in more exposed areas, are expected to bring gusts of 50-60 mph, gusting up to 70 mph in some coastal areas.

The Met Office says persistent rain, heavy at times, will fall during the morning before slowly easing this afternoon.

"Widespread rainfall accumulations of 20 to 30 mm are expected, and very locally 50 to 60 mm could fall," says a spokesman.
