This stranded 4×4 was rescued on Sunday afternoon (January 22nd) after getting stuck in mud on Burnham-On-Sea beach.

Crews from Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard and BARB Search & Rescue were called to the beach near Maddock’s Slade at 3.40pm where a Nissan Navarna had become trapped in thick mud.

BARB’s crew used spades and boards to try and free the vehicle, working alongside Burnham Coastguards, and a tractor from Burnham Boat Owners Association was also called to pull out the vehicle.

The owner, Jamie Angell from Bridgwater, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’ve only had the vehicle for a couple of weeks and wanted to drive the family along the beach, but I hit a soft patch and the wheels got stuck.”

“I was very grateful to the crews for helping me out and am embarrassed to have got stuck,” he added.

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard Station Officer Dave Welland added: “Access for vehicles on Burnham beach is only allowed for those with launch permits – there are many patches of soft sand and mud where vehicles and people can easily get stuck. Heed the warning signs and stay on the hard sand at the top of the beach.”

A BARB spokesman added that fortunately the tide was going out at the time or the incident could have been a more serious.

Our photos show the incident underway on Sunday afternoon with crews at the scene getting the vehicle out of the mud, with crews parked on the beach nearby.

The vehicle was finally pulled out of the mud by tractor.
