John Inverdale visits Burnham-On-Sea RNLI lifeboat station

BBC radio and TV commentator John Inverdale visited Burnham’s lifeboat station on Tuesday July 26th.

John took part in a Radio 5 broadcast of Any Sporting Questions at Cheddar on Monday and, as he was in the area, dropped in at the RNLI station where his sister, Jendy Weekes, is co-ordinator of the supporter’s group.

While he was at the station he talked with crew members and supporters about the lifeboats, launching tractors and other station facilities. He also posed for photographs with supporters and crew.

John, who is well known for his rugby reportage, said: “I am lost in admiration for the work and commitment of everybody involved with the RNLI.”

Lifeboat Operations Manager Martin Cox added: “We were delighted that Jendy was able invite John to the station.”

John tried out the helmsman’s seat of the Staines Whitfield lifeboat and is pictured above on Kay’s Cart, the station’s specialised launching tractor, with supporters and other station officials.
