Burnham-On-Sea’s Tesco store unveils plans to expand car park

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Tesco supermarket is pressing ahead with plans to extend its Love Lane site despite controversially losing a bid to expand the store itself earlier this year.

Burnham-On-Sea TescoThe supermarket giant has this week unveiled proposals to extend its car parking area by more than 70 spaces as it gears up to fight off competition from Asda in nearby Highbridge.

It wants to extend its car park by 74 spaces on an area of grassy land near to the drive-in entrance to the premises, pictured above.

The store has also applied to introduce a new replacement store entrance, add three new trolley bays, and relocate its recycling point.

The addition of the extra 74 car parking spaces proves that the store is gearing up to fight off competition from Asda, which is continuing building work at its Springfield Road site in readiness for its opening next year.

In September, Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report that the Department of Communities and Local Government had turned down Tesco’s bid to double the size of its store.
