U3A gives Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre a £500 boost

-

The project to refurbish Burnham-On-Sea’s Community Centre was given a further financial boost on Saturday morning (November 6th).

Members of Burnham’s University of The Third Age Concert Party handed over £500 to the centre’s Chairman, Ken Hindle.

The group’s Mary Miles, who is pictured here with Mr Hindle, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted to present this money to the centre, following a fundraising concert at the town’s Methodist Church Hall. Thanks go to everyone who helped us.”

Work to refurbish the centre is due to get underway later this month and be completed next year.

The centre in Berrow Road dates back to 1837 and is currently used by groups whose subject matter is as diverse as arts, crafts, exercise and faith groups. It is also home to Burnham Model Railway Club and Burnham War Games Society.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report in May that the centre had been awarded a £135,000 grant from Viridor’s Landfill Communities Fund towards the cost of its much-needed modernisation. Since then, the poroject’s costs have risen, prompting a fresh appeal for funding.
