Mobility scooter driver injured in Burnham-On-Sea crash with 4×4

A mobility scooter driver suffered head injuries in a crash with a 4×4 in Burnham-On-Sea town centre today (Thursday).

Emergency services were called to Adam Street at 11.40am following reports of the collision.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The male driver of the mobility scooter suffered a head injury and also had chest pains.”

“The road was closed while emergency services were on scene.”

The air ambulance also landed in Burnham at the nearby St Andrew’s School to help the casualty.

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called at 11.43am to a reported road traffic collision, involving a mobility scooter.”

“The male patient was treated at the scene and taken onto Southmead hospital for further treatment.”

Police closed Adam Street and directed traffic around the scene while ambulance crews treated the man. The road was re-opened mid-afternoon.
