Burnham-On-Sea air cadets lift off on Devon trip

-

Air cadets from Burnham-On-Sea have been experiencing the excitement of flying in an RAF Sea King helicopter this week.

The eleven-strong contingent from Burnham’s 290 Squadron visited RAF Chivenor in north Devon, where the rescue helicopter is based.

The cadets took part in a safety briefing before being shown the winching equipment.

Flying Officer Chris Garrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The highlight of the trip for the cadets was having the opportunity to be winched 20 foot into the aircraft before being flown around the coast of north Devon.”

“It was a fantastic opportunity for the cadets to experience, many of them had never flown in a helicopter before, let alone being winched into a helicopter!”

290 Squadron Air Training Corps is based in Burnham at the Cadet Centre on Highbridge Road and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7.30pm and 9.45pm. For more information, contact the squadron on 01934 647805 between these times.
