Berrow dunes to be tidied up by conservation volunteers

-

Berrow’s sand dunes will be tidied up by a group of conservation volunteers later this month.

The Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers will make their annual visit to the nature reserve to plant marram and clear sea buckthorn on February 22nd.

Since its introduction less than a century ago, the sea buckthorn has spread over about half of the area, leading to the loss of much of the grassland habitat.

The reserve is owned and managed by Sedgemoor District Council and is included within the Berrow Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Anyone who wants to take part in conservation events at Berrow Dunes should contact the council’s landscape officer on 0845 408 2540.
