Three arrests as cannabis plants are seized by Burnham Police

-

Burnham-On-Sea Police made a number of arrests and seized 30 cannabis plants during a major drugs crackdown at the weekend.

The latest round of the police force’s Operation Relentless is running across the force area to target and disrupt the organised cultivation of cannabis.

On Friday, Burnham police executed a drugs warrant at a property in Axbridge.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for production of cannabis after officers found 30 plants and associated equipment, which were seized. A 17-year-old boy was also arrested for possession with intent to supply cannabis after officers found approximately £1,000 of cannabis, bags, cash and scales.

Three further cannabis warnings and an arrest for possession of cannabis were made in the Burnham-On-Sea area later in the evening.

Officers also conducted pro-active patrols and licensing checks at bars and pubs in the Burnham area.

Across Somerset, officers executed 11 warrants and seized 900 plants with an estimated street value of £857,500. 15 individuals have been arrested on suspicion of possession and supply offences.

Drugs Strategy Manager Paul Bunt said: “This is a great start to our latest campaign. We will be carrying out many more warrants over the coming months to clamp down on cannabis cultivation in Somerset.”

“This operation should send out a clear message that illegal drugs of any kind will not be tolerated and we will continue to bring offenders to justice. The cultivation of cannabis has become a highly profitable illegal business. It also brings with it many potential harms to our communities.”

“I would urge anyone with any information about cannabis use or production in their area to get in touch with us on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
