Police step up fight against rogue traders in Burnham-On-Sea area

“We want to bring the scheme out to the rural areas and offer the same level of protection. The rural areas have strong communities and this type of scheme will help those who are vulnerable feel safer knowing that everyone is looking out for rogue traders.”

“Saying no to people is not always the easiest thing in the world to do, especially if you are on your own and confronted by a stranger at the door. The winter and spring are times that people may call, offering gardening services or building works at knocked down prices in return for cash.”

He added: “The law now protects people from cold callers, with legislation in place to allow the police and other agencies to deal with rogue traders. What we do need is your help to identify these people and deal with them so that they do not target other people.”

Police say residents who receive unwanted caller at their door selling or offering services should call 0845 456 7000 and be ready with a description of the person/people as well as a car registration number.
