Inquest hears Highbridge man was found dead after taking drugs

-

A 50-year-old Highbridge man died after taking a cocktail of drugs which stopped his heart, an inquest has been told.

Burnham-On-Sea police were called to the home of David Barrett in Newtown Road last August after concerned relatives raised the alarm.

An inquest hearing held over the past week heard that officers had forced entry to the man’s flat. Once inside, they had made the sad discovery of his body lying on a floor surrounded by empty pill packets, tablet boxes and a suicide note.

The hearing was told Mr Barrett, a former decorator and car repair man, had suffered with depression.

Michael Rose, West Somerset’s Coroner, recorded a verdict that Mr Barrett had “taken his own life while the balance of his mind was disturbed.”
